Not a whole lot of sleep

Last night I went out with friends after the little film festival so I didn’t get to sleep until  2 in the morning. Four hours and forty five minutes later, Sir Oliver woke me up and told me Lyric was feeling under the weather and wanted Mommy so I was driving him to school.

Darby came in a little later and said I could sleep longer and just take Ollie in by 9.30 instead of leaving at 7.30 – I  just had to make sure that he wasn’t late for his walk-a-thon today.

I grunted and rolled over, happy at the thought of an extra 90 minutes of sleep.

Then Ollie came back in. He was firm, though without a hint of complaint. “Daddy, please take me in for normal time because I really don’t want a TARDY. I hate getting a TARDY. Plus, I’m getting really good at my school work and I don’t want to miss any because I’m really fast now and if I miss some I might get slower and I like doing my school work like math and reading.”

What parent in their right mind could even argue with any of that? Apart from the fact that he’s ripping 90 precious minutes of sleep away from me, that is a dream child! So I rolled out of bed and drove him to school, and follow that up with watching Ollie’s Walk-A-Thon (which, I’m proud to say, he turned into a Run-A-Thon and ran more than a mile in ten minutes!), spending two plus hours at the DMV, writer’s group, web consulting at the Dojo and then back home by 6.30 PM and I am tired… Tired… tired. Like itchy skin tired. (Am I the only one whose skin itches when he’s tired?)

No you’re not the only one whose skin itches when s/he is tired! Mine does. It also goes numb at times when I’m really tired. I’ve never found anyone that had that symptom!

    Oliver—-you’re quite a student!

We totally ditched the walk a thon…..oops.

I too get a little itchy when I’m tired, but mostly
my legs ache something fierce when I am really tired and I cannot
stand that feeling. It’s like my legs are yelling at me to get to
bed. Once they start hurting I know….I am done.

I am sure Ollie is his teacher’s dream child, as well! I don’t know a single teacher who doesn’t wish all his/her students were as motivated and dedicated as Sir Oliver seems to be (I would personally love that)!!
