Yesterday was a creative, productive day

And also completely exhausting! It started at 7 in the morning and didn’t end until 4 in the morning. And in between those times I did only three things. I went to a parent teacher conference for my wonderful, talented, incredible daughter. (Literally, the teacher said to Darby and me, “Please, have more children. I need more like this one.”) Then I returned back to the house and had to write 27 pages of the one hour pilot I had been commissioned to write. (Makes me sound like such a legit artist to say commissioned… fancy way of saying I got paid.)

27 pages can be easy. These weren’t. It took me from 9.30 AM until past midnight. But the good news is that I’m quite happy with what I’ve produced. It’s a little love letter to loss and how you can use creativity to spin pain into gold. Funny how themes emerge… loss and pain dominated this particular draft – and yes, it’s a comedy.

Then, when most people would perhaps be inspired to go to bed, for some reason I thought it might be fun to launch a whole new weblog for my sister, who had been hanging out at thislifeinwriting.blogspot.com. I wanted her to have nothing between her blog’s name and that .com, so viola… I present to you thislifeinwriting.com. The sketches are all hers, which makes the weblog completely personal, which I love. We were quite happy with the way it worked out.

And then I went to bed. Woke up 6 hours later, had to read the script I had finished the night before – and fortunately, was able to proclaim in “good” – the “morning after” read is always a dicey proposition, as what can seem like genius in the heat of the night often comes off as whatwasithinking-ish in the cold light of day – sent it to the producers and now I’m free to take a break for a little while and pay attention to the most important people in my life. (Hi Darby and kids)

jason…so glad you are at a resting place…

I don’t know what I would do if I had to write a 27 page creative script, especially a comedy! I can easily do a term paper, but come up with something creative on demand!!!! And know that paying my bills depends on it? Oh, no.

Glad you finished!!!! Say hi to Erwin today!

Mam – good thing it’s not my final resting place!

Mom, it was a 66 page script, I jut wrote the final 27 pages on Friday. And it was really hard! I didn’t do myself any favors at all… I’ll explain in a post coming up how.

And btw, that first comment from “jason” is from my sister jessica. It makes me look like I lost my mind!

I wondered about that first comment. I thought to myself when I first read the entry: “Hmmm, maybe that was a little too long of a writing session for Jase. I think something might have cracked a bit. He’s talking to himself through the comments section on his blog.”

  8. Love the new blog for your sis. Are you using wordpress?

  9. jason says:

Yes, I love wordpress because of the flexibility and all the plugin possibilities!!
