Another date
More dating, I guess.
This one a double date, I suppose. This time I met with a well-connected manager/producer who is basically representing my friend and myself as writing partners. Once again, it’s always strange, these meetings, where you need to act natural while at the same time be aware that every second you are making an impression, good or bad, and you really should try to make it a good one.
This one got off to a late start. We thought it would be around 6.30, but didn’t really kick off until 8.30 – leaving my friend and I hanging out at a nearby In-N-Out Burger for quite some time. There are worse, less delicious ways to spend time.
This guy is a good guy, and he’s passionate about our writing and our careers. It’s always good to find allies and fans – in fact this struggle is really all about doing exactly that. Almost all jobs I’ll ever get will likely come from these personal connections.
We talked about a lot, it was a 3 hour meeting, and you can’t help but feel confident coming out of a meeting like that, to be honest. And we’re going to meet with him every other week – at his Malibu beach house…

I’m sorry to hear your going to have to meet at his Malibu beach house. And not just one, but what seems to be on a regular basis. Chalk it up to what you did for love, I suppose.
At least there seemed to be no buttering of “ups” going on this time; or if there was, you had the decency to keep it from those of us who might not approve or appreciate such behavior.
Yes, you know… the sacrifices I must make. Actually, I don’t really love going into someone else’s beach house that much…. reminds me I don’t have one!
…or it can give you ideas for how to decorate yours when you DO have one!!
This is true. This is true.
ugh. so many typos, so little time…
So…it was a GOOD first date then.
It really was. I had actually been talking to him via phone and stuff for a while, so it wasn’t exactly a blind date, either.
We even met the dog!
Haha, you’re so right! How could I not mention that? The dog that Ricky held on his hip like it was a child while it looked around thoughtfully like a baboon or something. Awesome.
